Exclusive Interview with Jon Diaz

Tell us about your musical background?
My first guitar lessons were with a Flamenco teacher. I hated it at the time, but I am so thankful for having good technique instilled in me at a young age.

What are you working on now?
Just started recording a solo guitar project at John Kilgore’s Sound in NYC. I’m in my 11th year of playing in Vera Beren’s Gothic Chamber Blues Ensemble and I’m also involved with the Orchestra of Crafty Guitarists.

What is the role of education in music?
For me, the role as a teacher is to show good fundamentals on the guitar and to keep people open minded to all kinds of music.

How do you feel about the current ‘state of the music industry’?
I feel it’s going through a metamorphosis like alot of the things in the world. Something has to give since the basic business model for a performing musician is pretty sad at best.

Why do use Mooer Pedals?
Killer sounds. That’s what it comes down to. How can I get the sound I want in a small enough package. I’ve been re looking at my pedal board within the last year trying to see how I can make it more efficient. Mooer pedals are the answer!
